Appointment System

It is our aim to provide easy access to the doctors and nurses. As we try to achieve this, we may occasionally have to change the appointment system to meet patient demands or the needs of the Practice.

Consultations with the doctors and nurses are by appointment only. We ask that when booking an appointment that if possible you let the Receptionist know briefly what the appointment is for - this will help them direct you to the most appropriate person.

To book an appointment please telephone the reception desk or call at the surgery in person.

Appointments can be booked up to one month in advance, or on the same day if considered urgent.

We try to accommodate all patients by booking in appointments with the Dr or Nurse of your choice - however this is not always possible.

We ask that if you are unable to attend your appointment that if possible please telephone the Practice at least an hour before which will allow us to offer the appointment to another patient.

Additional Professionals

As well as the communication tools of telephone and video consultations, we have learnt that other professionals can help with the management of patients’ health and social problems.

The Practice now has several additional professionals who can deal directly with problems that patients present with. These include

  •  Nurse Practitioners – very experienced clinicians who can deal with most clinical problems as well as prescribe when necessary
  •  Senior physiotherapists working as First Contact Practitioners (FCP) - They can deal with most musculo-skeletal problems eg back pain, joint pain, etc
  •  Clinical pharmacists - can manage most medication-related problems
  •  Care Co-ordinators – keep an eye on patients with long-term conditions as well as house bound patients. They report to the GPs with any problems they find.
  • Nursing Associates – support the Practice nurses in their work

Online Consultations with engage.gp

Click here to use the online consultation system.

The system’s available for you to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for admin enquiries and medical queries.

If you’re sending a medical consultation please only use it for routine problems; we review incoming consultations every working day but not when we’re closed.  If you send a medical consultation before 1.00pm we’ll respond to you the same day.  If you send it after 1.00pm it’ll be the following working day.  If you’re not sure whether to use it when we’re closed please seek alternative help by phoning 111 or 999, depending on the urgency of your problem.

Your medical consultation is ALWAYS reviewed by a nurse or doctor and ALWAYS by someone that’s qualified to deal with your problem.

The system doesn’t make any decisions for clinicians it just gathers information about your problem so a clinician can decide what to do.

Using the system helps us to help you see the right person for your problem at the earliest opportunity.

This is because you’ve provided a lot of information about your problem before we see you, so we can assess your needs much better.  Sometimes we might be able to help you over the telephone so you won’t even need to visit the practice.

Completing all the questions asked when you’re using the system is far more helpful than only telling us what the problem is or partially completing the questionnaire.

Completing the questionnaire will help us to make sure you see the right person first time.  If you don’t complete the questionnaire we might not have enough information to help you, so we’ll have to arrange an appointment for you.  We understand there might be times when you don’t know the answer to a question and it’s OK to skip a question if you don’t know the answer.

If you’d like to register to use the system then click here.. If you register to use the system then you won’t have to enter your personal details every time you send us a consultation and we’ll be able to send you secure messages online rather than having to try and contact you by telephone.

Home Visits

If your illness truly prevents you from being able to get to the Practice to see a doctor then please telephone the Practice and speak to one of the Reception team. A doctor will usually call you back to discuss the problem. They may be able to give you some advice over the phone. If thought necessary, the Doctor or Paramedic will visit you at home.

We would generally recommend that you make every effort to come to the Practice if you wish to see a doctor. This is because, with all necessary equipment to hand, we can give a better service from the surgery. It takes as much time to see approximately three patients at the Practice as it does to see one patient at their home

Cancelling or changing an appointment

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.
